Box Score
January 17 – A tremendous first-half effort by the Oberlin College women's basketball team did not translate into second half success as they fell to first place Denison 64-41 in an NCAC battle at Philips Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen and Big Red went toe-to-toe for the first 20 minutes with the first session featuring 11 lead changes and three ties. Oberlin (3-11, 1-5 NCAC) connected on 40-percent (10-of-25) of its shots in the opening frame, and their stingy defense forced 29 Big Red shots off the mark as they went just 8-of-37 (21.6%) in the half, but still managed to lead 25-24 at the break.
However, the roles were reversed in the second half as Oberlin went without a score for a seven-minute span in the beginning of the stanza to allow Denison (8-6, 5-0 NCAC) to build a 41-26 lead with 12:17 left to play and effectively putting the game out of reach.
The Yeowomen made just 6-of-26 (23.1%) field goals over the final 20 minutes, while the Big Red offense went 11-of-26 (42.3%) from the floor, while adding 13 free throw makes along the way.
Senior
Alyssa Clark led Oberlin with 14 points and eight boards. The Big Red had three players in double figures with Katie St. Clair guiding the attack with 13 points.
Oberlin will have a quick turnaround as they step out of conference to play host to Carnegie Mellon on Monday night at 7 p.m.
