Series Info …
Oberlin trails Wesleyan 19-47-1 all-time … the Bishops and Yeomen have not done battle on the gridiron since 2005, a game in which Ohio Wesleyan won 24-14 … in the contest
R.V. Carroll Rushed for 93 yards on just six carriers to go along with one touchdown … Ohio Wesleyan has topped Oberlin in their last 19 meetings from 1987 through 2005 … Oberlin last beat the Bishops in week two of the 1986 season when they came away with a 20-17 victory.
Scouting the Bishops …
Ohio Wesleyan invades Savage Stadium with a record of 0-3 and are 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference … the Bishops have mustered up just nine points so far this season and are coming off a 32-0 defeat dealt by Wittenberg last Saturday … the Bishops have been plagued by miscues so far this season as they are – 9 in turnover ratio (last in the NCAC) … OWU is also last in the NCAC in total offense (203.3 ypg), pass offense (103.7 ypg), scoring (3.0 ppg) and rushing defense (225.3 ypg) … in 2007, OWU went 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC to finish fifth in the conference.
Records Watch …
Coming off a down week against the Gators, senior #R.V. Carroll# looks to return to his normal self as he goes up against statistically the worst run defense in the NCAC … the 5-foot-10 Perry, Ohio, native needs 179 yards to pass Ron Stevenson (1979-82/3,462 yards) as the all-time rushing leader at Oberlin College … the compact back is also looking for 12 points to pass Alan Spiegelberg (1959-62/249 points) to claim the all-time points crown. Currently, Carroll ranks third in the NCAC with 91.7 ypg and is averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
Filling the Shoes …
Wide Receivers
Mike Loll and
Ryan Harvey have been doing a very admirable job filling the shoes of Oberlin greats Chris Schubert and Cassius Harris, who graduated last year as the school's all-time leading receivers … Harvey, a sophomore, is fifth in the NCAC in receiving yards at 80.7 yards per game and is averaging a league-best 20.2 ypc … both of his touchdowns this season have covered 50-plus yards … after taking last season off from football, Loll looks like he hasn't missed a beat as the senior leads the team and is second in the league with 20 catches through the first three games … the Davison, Michigan, native has been more of a possession receiver for the Yeomen as he is averaging 9.7 ypc, totaling 194 yards on the year … his 64.7 ypg is good for eighth best in the league.
