Final Stats

September 20 –
The No. 18 Case Western Reserve Spartans spoiled the homecoming festivities for the Oberlin College football team as they dealt the Yeomen a 48-21 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Senior #R.V. Carroll# gained 103 yards on 18 carries, while quarterback Greg Mangan was a very efficient 27-of-36 for 194 yards and a touchdown to lead the Yeomen attack. Wide out Mike Loll was the top receiver, snagging eight balls for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately, the Spartans Offense proved to be too potent for the Yeomen in the first half as they had a 45-7 lead at the break and never looked back.

After surrendering a touchdown on the game's opening drive, Oberlin responded with a 10-play 79-yard scoring drive that was capped off by Carroll's three-yard TD run - his first of the season on the ground.

Case (3-0) added two more scores in the first quarter and three TDs in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

Playing in just the first half, Spartans' quarterback Dan Whalen was a workman-like 14-of-25 for 260 yards and four touchdowns.

Never giving up, the Yeomen continued to fight as Wayne Mundekis cashed in a six-yard TD run with 8:25 left in the third quarter and Mangan hooked up with Loll from nine-yards out with 3:36 left in the game.

Austin Richards registered his second-straight game with double-digits tackles as he and #A.J. Greene# each tallied 10 on the day.

Oberlin will look to regroup next Saturday when it begins conference play at Allegheny College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
