Box Score
August 30 – The Oberlin College field hockey team began their season with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Centre College on Saturday afternoon.
The first half didn't feature much offense from both sides as the Colonels and Yeowomen displayed tough midfield and transition defense. After getting on the board in the 11th minute, the Colonels took a 2-0 lead on a penalty shot by Sarah Humphries.
However, Oberlin would not go scoreless in the first half as senior
Abigail Brox scored off of a penalty corner, receiving an assist from
Ariel Schuster, but the Colonels added another goal to take a 3-1 advantage at the break.
The Yeowomen struck first in the second session as Natasha Cohan cashed in a penalty corner with the dish coming from Brox. Oberlin then kept up the offensive intensity as
Danielle Gilliam found the back of the cage at the 10:07 mark to equal things at three.
Unfortunately, the momentum was short lived as the Colonels' Teresa Johnstone scored her second goal of the game just a minute later, which turned out to be the game winner.
Oberlin will try and bounce back tomorrow afternoon as it plays host to Transylvania at 2 p.m.
