December 3 – Despite January Baker's first-career double-double, the Oberlin College women's basketball team dropped their NCAC opener to Wooster, 74-57, on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.
Baker, a senior from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Kira Rivera and
Fran Holoman each added nine points for the Yeowomen, while
Alyssa Clark ripped down a game-high 11 boards.
Oberlin (0-6, 0-1 NCAC) had a strong first half – shooting 50-percent (10-of-20) from the floor as it trailed just 29-24 after 20 minutes of play.
Unfortunately, it was a tale of two halves for the Yeowomen as they went cold on offense – connecting on just 21.1-percent (8-of-38) of their attempts in the second session.
The Scots (2-2, 1-0 NCAC) used a 13-3 run to start the second half – building a 42-27 advantage at the 16:35 mark and never looked back.
OC had no answer for Wooster's Kym Wenz as she led all scorers with 33 points. Post-player Kaitlin Krister also added 13 for the victors.
Oberlin did win the rebounding war 49-38, but the Scots turned 23 Oberlin turnovers into 27 points.
The Yeowomen will look for their first win on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Earlham College at 1 p.m.
