Box Score
November 23 – The Macalester College Scots proved to be too much for the Oberlin College women's basketball team as they defeated the Yeowomen 85-43 on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Kira Rivera led the Oberlin offense with nine points on 4-of-9 shooting, while sophomore
Syrea Thomas dropped in eight points of her own. Senior January Baker ripped off a team-high six rebounds.
“We are a young and growing team that has a lot to work on,” head coach
Kerry Jenkins said. “Macalester is a tough opponent and theyed play a very sound game on both ends of the floor today.”
Oberlin (0-2) was fighting to hang around early on as
Katie Thompson cashed in two of her seven points at the free thrown line to make it a 21-12 Macalester edge with 11:26 left in the opening half. Unfortunately, the Scots responded with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes and went into the locker room with a 46-18 advantage.
The Yeowomen were plagued by a cold shooting performance, converting just 18-of-57 (31.6%) of their attempts. OC also made just seven trips to the charity stripe – converting four – compared to the Scots who connected on 15-of-22 tries at the line.
Ball control was another major issue for the Yeowomen as they turned it over 28 times on the afternoon.
Oberlin will look for its first win on Tuesday night when they play host to John Carroll University at 7 p.m.
