Nov. 22 – The Oberlin Women's Basketball team was on the road in the Land of 10,000 Lakes to play Whitman in the first round of the Macalester Tip-Off Tournament. Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gold, Whitman jumped all over the Yeowomen and did not let up until the final score read Whitman 75, Oberlin 36.
Whitman doubled up the Yeowomen in the first-half out-scoring Oberlin 36-18. Whitman shot a blistering 50% for the game while Oberlin could only knock down shots at a 31% clip. Other statistical categories were also in Whitman's favor and Oberlin struggled to make up for 25 turnovers and a 2-11 mark from behind the three-point stripe.
Senior January Baker led the Yeowomen in scoring with 8 points and rebounding with 4 boards. Baker also made her presence felt in the paint blocking three shots. Junior
Kayla Brandt also chipped in with 8 points, tying a career-high, in 26 minutes of action.
Senior standout
Alyssa Clark was largely kept in check against Whitman scoring just five points on four shots and grabbing four rebounds.
Head Coach
Kerry Jenkins said, “They [Whitman] were just the better team today. The good part about basketball this time of year is that win or lose, we get another shot at it tomorrow. We need to improve in several areas and tomorrow gives us another shot to do that.”
The Yeowomen will play again tomorrow at 2:00 pm against Macalester in the final game of the Macalester tip-off tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.
