Final Stats
October 25 – Earlham College scored early and often as they triumphed over Oberlin College 56-23 on Saturday afternoon at Savage Stadium.
Freshman
Sean Curtis led the Oberlin ground game with 68 yards on just 10 carries, while
Wayne Mundekis added two 1-yard touchdown runs. Through the air,
Greg Mangan was 18-of-29 for 225 yards and one touchdown – but was picked off twice.
Senior
Mike Loll had another fine day receiving with 75 yards on six catches, while first-year #C.J. Holman# had a the best game of his young career with five catches for 51 yards.
Oberlin (2-5, 2-2 NCAC) got on the board first with
Zach Richard's second field goal of the season, but the Quakers (2-5, 2-2 NCAC) bounced back with four-straight touchdowns to take 28-3 lead just moments into the third quarter.
The Yeomen would not go away as Mundekis cashed his first score of the game to cut the lead to 28-10 with 7:29 left in the third quarter.
Following another Earlham touchdown, Mangan went up top- connecting with Loll from 31 yards out, but the Quakers kept coming – adding two more offensive scores and one defensive touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Earlham's offensive exploited a banged-up Oberlin defense – racking up 529 yards of total offense and was a very efficient 7-of-13 on third downs.
Defensively, the Yeomen were paced
Solomon Turner with seven tackles. Converted fullback into line backer,
Scott Kjellberg, also added seven stops.
The loss snapped a seven-game conference home winning streak for the Yeomen, as they have not dropped an NCAC at battle at Savage Stadium since October 28, 2006 against Wittenberg (22-6).
Oberlin will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana for a clash against Wabash College.
