Yeo Notes: Oberlin at Kenyon, October 18

October 15 – After a disappointing trip out to Chicago, the Oberlin College football team hopes the return to conference play is the elixir that will get their season back on track this Saturday at Kenyon.

Last meeting against the Lords: Oberlin won 63-33 on November 3, 2007 at Savage Stadium.

Series Info …

Oberlin leads Kenyon 37-35-6 in the all-time series, with the Yeomen winning each of the last two meetings in convincing fashion … last season, Oberlin pounded the Lords 63-33, a game in which quarterback Greg Mangan threw for 224 and two scores on a workmanlike 16-of-21 effort … the Yeomen defense also created six turnovers (4 fumbles, 2 INT) on the afternoon … in 2006, Oberlin's last trip Gambier, it was much of the same as the Yeomen came away with a 56-42 victory … in the game, running back #R.V. Carroll# rushed for a school record 336 yards and also set the single-game touchdown record with five scores on the ground … Mangan also added three TD tosses, while Wayne Mundekis averaged 9.6 yards per rush with 48 yards on five carries … Oberlin is 5-2 against Kenyon dating back to 2001.

Scouting the Lords…


Kenyon comes into Saturday's game at 1-5 overall and is still in search of its first conference win of the season with an 0-3 mark in league play … the Lords have lost four straight games … with their lone win of the season coming against the Yeomen's opponent from last week, a 39-36 triumph over the University of Chicago on Sept. 13 … the Lords are giving up a conference-leading 40.8 points per game … Kenyon is also last against the run, allowing 228.5 yards per game and last in total defense, surrendering 446.7 yards per game … in 2007 the Lords finished 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the NCAC.

Run Yeomen Run …

The ground game is the bread-and-butter for the Yeomen offensive attack … dating back to 2006, Oberlin is 8-0 when they have at least 40 rushing attempts in a game … this season Oberlin is averaging 102.6 rushing yards per game- good for sixth best in the NCAC.

Road Woes …

The Yeomen are 9-27 away from home dating back to the 2001 campaign … Oberlin's last road win came on October 6, 2007 when they beat Denison 34-27 … so far this season, in two road tilts, the Yeomen are averaging just 10 points per game, compared to 28 points per game at home … Oberlin is also averages just 246.5 yards of total offense on the road, while racking up 313 yards per game at Savage Stadium.
