Yeomen Stumble at Chicago

Yeomen hope to regroup next week at Kenyon.
Final Stats

October 11 –
Oberlin's attempt to spoil Chicago's homecoming didn't go as planned as the Maroons upended the Yeomen, 33-7, on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

The OC offense never really got going and the defense could not contain the Maroons fast-paced offense.

Quarterback Greg Mangan was under duress throughout the game, as he was sacked five times and held to just 93 yards passing. Junior Wayne Mundekis led the ground attack with 60 yards on 20 carries, while first-year Sean Curtis added 41 yards on just five carries.

After holding the Maroons on downs at the their own 38-yard line, the Yeomen used a 36-yard completion to Ryan Harvey to setup a 2-yard touchdown run by Mundekis for the first score of the game.

After Mundekis' fourth touchdown of the season, Chicago responded with three unanswered scores to claim a 19-7 lead at the break. However, the Yeomen benefited by two Maroon turnovers inside the redzone to help keep them within striking distance, but both times they were unable to capitalize.

The Yeomen got the ball to start the second half, but after moving into Chicago territory, Mangan was sacked on back-to-back plays to short-circuit the drive. UC answered with a 13-play, 77-yard scoring drive that covered nearly six minutes to make it a 26-7 Maroons edge, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Yeomen.

Defensively, Oberlin was paced by Ron Rupard and Tyler Lewis as they checked in with seven tackles each.

The Yeomen will look to bounce back next week when they return to conference play against Kenyon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. down in Gambier, Ohio.
