Intramurals are fun, recreational, social and competitive on-campus sports activities for Oberlin College students and employees. Whether you are an intramural veteran or a first-time participant, we think you can find plenty of opportunities to get involved with our intramural program. The events (leagues, tournaments and one-day events of both team and individual sports) are designed by students with the everyday athlete, just like you, in mind. This is a great opportunity for you to have some fun, meet others and to try out that new sport you've always wanted to learn!
Intramurals provides the opportunity for physical activity and fellowship, while promoting wellness and the positive use of leisure time. Regardless of ability, we strive to realize the benefits of social recreation and competitive involvement. It is our goal to maintain a safe and fun environment, free from arguments and fighting, both of which are punishable by intramural supervisors and the director.
It is our goal also to empower the participants with the control of their contests. Therefore, there are no paid officials whistling play. It is the responsibility of the captains and each player to do everything possible to insure that the game atmosphere is friendly, good-natured and played in an amiable manner.
Captains help develop the playing rules with modifications as deemed necessary and thus have ownership of the league. Captains are also liaisons between the IM staff (student coordinators and Director) and thus are key to the success of the program.
