Intramurals Rules and Policies

Player Eligibility

A player may participate with only one team during each event. If a team is dropped without having played a game, players may transfer to another team. Players may be added to rosters up to the second game of the event, provided that they have not participated with any other team. Those additions must be reported to the IM Office at least 24 hours prior to the next scheduled contest. NO roster additions may be made at game time. Any team that uses an ineligible player will forfeit any contest in which that ineligible player participated. Any player who participates illegally will be dismissed from the entire intramural program.

Current and Former Varsity Athletes

No current varsity athlete may compete in the intramural program in any event related to their varsity sport (i.e. varsity soccer players may not participate in indoor or outdoor intramural soccer, and varsity baseball players may not play intramural softball). Any red-shirted athlete or other individual who practices with a squad and/or is a member of the team on or after the date of the first varsity contest is considered to be a member of that squad for intramural purposes. Hence s/he is ineligible to participate in that or any related sport in the intramural program for one year. The team captains are responsible for enforcing the eligibility requirements, and are required to inform the Intramural Office of any players who do not meet these requirements.

Inclement Weather/Rainouts

All cancellation decisions are based on facility playing conditions, the safety and comfort of players, and the preservation of facilities for future use. A decision on rainouts and postponements will be made at least one hour before the scheduled start of the day's first contest. Call 775-8519 to check on the status of an event.

Ejections

Anyone ejected from an event for any reason must leave the playing area immediately, or the captain will be required to forfeit her/his team from the contest. An ejected player is automatically disqualified for the team's next contest, and is not permitted to participate in any intramural activity until s/he petitions the Intramural Director for reinstatement.

Activities sponsored by the College mandate appropriate behavior by those participating. Unsportsmanlike conduct entailing verbal and/or physical abuse and intimidation will not be tolerated. To encourage proper decorum, the following criteria for ejection have been initiated:

* Swearing
* Arguing with captains, participants, and/or spectators
* Improper treatment of college and/or intramural equipment and/or facilities
* Any misconduct that disrupts the normal administration of a specific event and the safety of all involved
* Any fighting, or actions leading up to fighting, which result result in a disqualification. Those involved will be required to meet with the Intramural Director or her designee.

Misconduct will be reviewed by the Intramural Staff for appropriate action.

* 1st offense: ejection from game and suspension from next scheduled contest
* 2nd offense: disqualified from that intramural sport and expelled from participation in intramurals for the remainder of the academic year.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Use

Alcoholic beverages and any type of drug use are strictly prohibited on and around intramural events. Intramural staff members assigned to each event or complaint have the authority and responsibility to make decisions based on suspected alcohol and drug use by participants according to their actions, language or breath odor. Tobacco products, either smoked or chewed, are also prohibited.

Statement of Risk

The intramural participant is encouraged to consider her/his personal health and physical condition prior to participation in intramural activities. Such participation involves physical exertion, fundamental skills for that activity, and may involve physical contact. The participant being aware of any conditions predisposing her/himself to injury or illness, and in consideration of the inherent physical demands of the sport or event in question, may wish to seek the advice of a physician prior to participation.

Carrying the supplemental health insurance available through the Student Health Service is high recommended.
