Crimson and Gold Face the Fighting Scots

Wooster, Ohio – Traveling south for a weeknight contest, the Oberlin College field hockey team hit the road to face Wooster on Tuesday night. Despite outshooting the Fighting Scots, the Crimson and Gold dropped the 1-0 decision.

Oberlin produced more than twice the shots of their opponents, holding a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Controlling the majority of the offensive possession, the Crimson and Gold also posted a 13-3 edge in penalty corners. First-year Mia Rubin appeared in goal for all 60 minutes, recording a pair of saves while Shelby Roth led Oberlin with six shots, all on goal.

The Crimson and Gold earned a corner in the first three minutes of the contest, but the Wooster defense held the Obies from attempting a shot. Bella Tilford delivered a shot halfway through the opening period and a second shot towards the end of the quarter, but went just wide of the goal on both attempts.

Wooster sent a shot towards the goal in the 19' as Rubin deflected the attempt away. Gaining control of the rebound at the post, the Fighting Scots' Izzie Kline got the home team on the board. Following an Oberlin corner, Tilford attempted to score the equalizer but was blocked by the Wooster defense. Samantha Finkelberg took control of the rebound, but her shot found the glove of the home team's keeper.

After the halftime break, the Obies fired shot after shot, with shots from Clare Kammeier and Lucia Grant in the opening minutes. Roth delivered back-to-back shots in the 39th minute, but was stopped by the Wooster keeper on both attempts. Roth continued to send the ball towards the net in the fourth quarter, delivering four shots on target. With time running out for Oberlin, Wooster was able to claim the narrow 1-0 victory.

The Crimson and Gold return to Bailey on Saturday, September 3, at noon when they host Ohio Wesleyan.
