Oberlin, Ohio — The Oberlin College women's soccer team battled throughout Tuesday night's contest against visiting Otterbein before the Cardinals came away with a 6-1 victory at Shults Field.
The Crimson and Gold created several opportunities in the opening half, putting seven shots toward goal compared to eight from the visitors. Skylar Leung and Emma Boyles each recorded shots on target, while Averi Williams registered two shots on frame during the opening 45 minutes. Oberlin also earned two corner kicks, while goalkeeper Asha Locke made four saves to keep the Obies within striking distance.
Otterbein opened the scoring in the 28' on a penalty kick, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime. Oberlin continued to generate chances, with Williams, Boyles, and Leung among the offense creating opportunities in the attack.
The Cardinals came out of halftime with added offensive pressure, firing off 15 shots and earning eight corner kicks in the second half. They capitalized on the increased pressure, finding the back of the net five times after the break.
Despite the deficit, the Crimson and Gold continued to battle and found the back of the net late. Williams scored in the 89', finishing the night with three shots and three shots on goal, to put Oberlin on the board.
Boyles finished with two shots, both on target, while Leung added one shot on goal. Kylie Tinnirella also recorded a shot for Oberlin.
In goal, Locke made four saves during the opening half before Roam Redington took over for the second half and recorded four saves. Together, the Oberlin goalkeepers made eight saves on the night.
The Crimson and Gold are back in action on Saturday, September 26 at 1 p.m. to take on their final non-conference match up, Mount Union.
