Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team battled through 90 minutes of action on Saturday afternoon, with Mount Union coming away with a 2-0 decision at Shults Field.
Emma Boyles led the Crimson and Gold offensively with four shots, including three on goal, while Averi Williams added two shots with one finding the frame. In goal, Asha Locke kept Oberlin within reach throughout the afternoon, making seven saves across all 90 minutes. Oberlin finished with eight total shots, including four on goal.
The Purple Raiders struck early, finding the back of the net in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Oberlin answered with several offensive opportunities of its own, as Emma Boyles put two shots on frame during the opening half, both of which were turned away by the Mount Union goalkeeper. Averi Williams and Jordan Prough also recorded first-half attempts for the Crimson and Gold.
Oberlin goalkeeper Asha Locke kept the Purple Raiders off the scoreboard for the remainder of the opening half, making a save in the 22'. The Crimson and Gold entered halftime trailing by just one.
Mount Union increased its offensive pressure coming out of the break, recording 13 second-half shots and earning five corner kicks. Locke was busy in the second half, making six saves to keep Oberlin within striking distance.
The Crimson and Gold continued to look for an equalizer, with Boyles, Sawyer Ramberg, and Williams each registering second-half shots. Boyles put a shot on goal in the 72', while Williams forced another save from the Mount Union goalkeeper in the 80th minute.
Mount Union added the final goal in the 88', to make it 2-0.
The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday, October 3rd when they travel to face DePauw in their first conference game.
