Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team delivered an offensive showcase on Tuesday evening, erupting for four goals in the opening 14' and overwhelming Olivet, 5-1, at Shults Field. The Crimson and Gold struck twice in the first four minutes and never took their foot off the gas, controlling the match from start to finish to secure the home victory.
"I thought we came out with great energy and did a good job applying pressure from the start. It was valuable to give the entire group meaningful minutes and see contributions throughout the lineup." Head Coach Taylor Houck said.
Molly Button opened the scoring just 2:13 into the match, finishing a feed from Averi Williams. The duo connected again in the 4', with Button finding the back of the net to give the Crimson and Gold an early 2-0 advantage.
Williams added an unassisted marker in the 6' before Sappho Bodkin recorded the first goal of her collegiate career in the 14', extending the Oberlin lead to four.
Olivet broke through in the 38', but the Obies responded less than two minutes later when Sawyer Ramberg converted a pass from Natalie Horak to grab the fifth goal and final goal of the night.
The Crimson and Gold continued to control possession throughout the second half, generating 18 shots and four corner kicks while holding the Comets scoreless over the final 45'.
Oberlin finished with a commanding 45-2 advantage in total shots, including a 25-2 edge in attempts on goal. The Obies also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, while four different players found the back of the net.
"We're continuing to improve and create more chances than we did in our earlier matches, but we still need to be more clinical in front of the goal and turn more of those opportunities into goals." Houck concluded
