Meadville, Pa. – The Oberlin College men's tennis team opened its fall season with a strong showing at the Allegheny Invitational, collecting 19 victories across singles and doubles competition at the Robertson Tennis Center.
The Yeomen earned nine singles wins, including straight-set victories from Max Brose, Zain Makada, Cameron Weiss, Brady Huggett and Dash Smith. Weiss surrendered just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Smith matched that performance with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 result.
Rowan Ing battled back after dropping his opening set to earn a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) victory. Ben Tichauer and Oliver Knijnenburg also rallied from one-set deficits, with Tichauer winning 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7) and Knijnenburg securing a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) decision. Enrique Margain rounded out Oberlin's singles victories with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph.
Oberlin added 10 wins in doubles play. Huggett and Tichauer led the way with two victories as a pairing, earning wins by scores of 6-1 and 7-5. Brose and Tichauer, Smith and Makada, Makada and Knijnenburg, and Knijnenburg and Margain each recorded victories against Tiffin pairings.
Margain and Cameron Weiss, Smith and Rohan Nelthropp, Makada and Tichauer, and Brose and Knijnenburg also picked up doubles wins during the tournament.
Saturday's matches were canceled due to rain, while Sunday's final round ended early because of additional rain.
