Kalamazoo, Michigan – Traveling for their first road match of the season, the Oberlin College men's soccer team took on Kalamazoo on Friday afternoon. Despite a trio of on-target shots from a pair of Oberlin rookies, the Yeomen fell 2-0.
Kalamazoo held a 14-8 edge in shots, converting seven on goal while Oberlin posted three on-target shots.
Vince Fortuna appeared in net for a full 90 minutes, delivering five saves.
Offensive action kicked off early, with Fortuna making a save after a shot from the inside edge of the penalty box. Oberlin controlled the ball to their offensive end, as
Kinton Surface sent a shot from 20 yards out. Surface continued to attempt to convert a shot, as his third attempt from 25 yards out was saved by the Kalamazoo keeper. Vortuna flexed his talents, saving two more goals to close the half.
Five minutes into the second half, the Hornets launched a ball from inside the penalty box to get on the board. At 84 ',
Luca Stephan got in on the offensive action but was stopped by the Kalamazoo goalie. The Hornets extended their lead to 2-0 at 85:49 from inside the box. Unable to find another scoring opportunity, the Yeomen dropped the 2-0 decision.
"It was a tough task to turn around and play today after playing such a difficult game on Wednesday. We are getting close, and a lot of young players saw playing time today. Now we need a few days' rest to get healthy and ready for Heidelberg." Head Coach

Oberlin returns home on Wednesday, September 16, when they host Heidelberg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
