Oberlin, Ohio – Clare Kammeier scored twice and added an assist as four different players found the back of the cage as the Oberlin College field hockey team won 6-1 over EMU on Friday afternoon at Knowlton Stadium.
The Crimson and Gold improved to 2-1 on the season after receiving goals from four different players in front of over 204 fans.
"Anytime you come away with a 6-1 win, there are a lot of great things to take away!" Head Coach Jess West expressed. "I loved seeing four different players find the back of the goal, and we continue to do a good job creating that attacking pressure. At the same time, we know there are areas of our game that need to be sharper."
Kammeier opened the scoring just over six minutes into the contest before helping Oberlin double its advantage at the 12:31 mark. The sophomore set up Lucia Grant for her second goal of the season, giving Kammeier five points on the afternoon.
Oberlin continued its fast start less than two minutes later when Kammeier connected on her second goal of the game off an assist from Mary Rodman, sending the Crimson and Gold into the first-quarter break with a 3-0 advantage.
After a scoreless second period, Oberlin's attack came alive again in the third. Grant collected her second goal of the contest at the 35:45 mark following a feed from Samantha Finkelberg. Bella Tillford added another tally just over four minutes later to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Royals broke through early in the fourth quarter, but the Crimson and Gold answered just 63 seconds later. Rodman found the back of the cage for her first goal of the season, putting the finishing touch on Oberlin's 6-1 victory.
"As we prepare to enter conference play next Sunday, our focus is on executing the simple, foundational pieces of field hockey consistently. We're excited to get back on the practice field, continue growing together, and keep moving forward as one team playing for one purpose." West concluded.
Oberlin returns to the field on Sunday, September 20, opening conference play against DePauw at noon.
