Oberlin, Ohio – Conquering the rainy conditions, the Oberlin College field hockey team hosted DePauw for their North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener on Sunday afternoon.

I'm really proud of the way we competed today. From start to finish, we showed up as One Team and played with the fight, discipline, and purpose we've been asking for. We executed so many of the things we emphasized throughout the week and put ourselves in positions to be dangerous," Head Coach Jess West adds.
DePauw outshot Oberlin 11-1, with eight shots on goal. Rookie
Mia Rubin appeared between the pipes for a full 60 minutes, recording five saves. The Tigers also held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The visitors opened offensive action early, as a DePauw shot was stopped by Rubin. The Tigers earned back-to-back corners in the seventh minute as the Oberlin defense held them off, blocking a shot attempt on the second corner. DePauw got on the board at 12:51, slipping a shot to the bottom right corner, just outside of Rubin's reach. The Tigers attempted one more shot within the quarter, but Rubin was able to hold the visitors off.
Offensive action got off to a slow start in the second period, until nearly 10 minutes in, when the Oberlin defense blocked a DePauw attempt. Rubin halted a pair of shots minutes later, but the Tigers connected at 27:02 to extend their lead to 2-0.
Returning from the halftime break, Oberlin got the first offensive play of the third frame after they were granted a corner.
Shelby Roth sent a shot from the edge of the arc, but sent the ball just left of the goal. The Crimson and Gold earned another corner at the 43', but the DePauw defense remained sturdy.
The Tigers continued their offensive control, maintaining a majority of possession. With less than 90 seconds remaining, DePauw extended their lead to three, keeping the ball on their offensive end for the remainder of the contest.
"The next step for us is turning those attacking opportunities into results. We know we left chances out there today, and that's something we'll continue to demand more of ourselves. This team is competing, growing, and continuing to raise its standard. We're ready to get back to work this week and prepare for Kenyon on Saturday," West continues.
The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday, September 26, when they travel to Kenyon for a 12 p.m. matchup.
