Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Oberlin Takes on Elmhurst (RV) on Road

Elmhurst, Illinois – Traveling out of state for the first time this season, the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team battled Elmhurst (RV) on Saturday afternoon. Despite leading at the end of the first quarter, the Crimson and Gold dropped the 9-6 decision.

Six Yeomen got in on the scoring action for Oberlin with goals from Andrew Rosa, Asher Friedman, Solomon Brennan, Jacob Starcke, Nicholas Cuda, and Jackson Lu. Evan Sardina led the face-off, going 11-16 and recording a game-high nine ground balls. Cooper Rand tallied six ground balls while Starcke, Cuda, and Colin Taylor added three apiece. In goal for all 60 minutes of regulation, Nolan Grieshaber produced seven saves.

Rosa got Oberlin on the board at 12:17, sending the ball to the top left. Less than 15 seconds later, Friedman drilled the ball around a defender and the Elmhurst goalie to lift the Yeomen to a 2-0 advantage.

The Blue Jays dished out a strong defense, keeping Oberlin from taking a shot for over five minutes and scoring their first goal with a three-player man-up opportunity. Brennan responded with a goal a minute later to continue the Crimson and Gold's early momentum. Starcke and Cuda followed with goals later in the period as Oberlin entered the second quarter maintaining a 5-1 edge.

Elmhurst scored just over two minutes to start the second session. At 10:41, Taylor picked up a ground ball off a Blue Jay turnover and sent a pass to Lu, finding the back of the net, increasing Oberlin's advantage to 6-2.

Following the halftime break, Elmhurst made it difficult for the Yeomen to score despite outshooting the home team. In the meantime, the Blue Jays scored two more goals, reducing their deficit to two entering the final quarter.

The Blue Jays opened the fourth frame with a goal within the first minute and continued to roll ahead, posting four more goals to clinch the victory and remain undefeated.

Oberlin will take a week to regroup, returning to the field on Saturday, March 14, when they travel to Adrian. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
