Savannah, Georgia - The Oberlin College women's tennis team won a 7-0 dual match against the Savannah Lady Tigers on Monday. This victory marks their second on-the-road win and propels women's tennis to a record of 6-3.
Sophomore pair, Scarlett Kingston and Eva Lopez finished first, earning a smooth win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. Rachel Allen and Hannah Soong teamed up at No. 1 doubles. With both players possessing significant doubles experience, they cruised to a 6-3 victory against doubles team Madeline Anne Nolan and Nyla Warner. Olivia Guzman and Olivia Wollner, played at No. 3 doubles and took the 6-3 win, securing the sweep of doubles play.
Up 1-0, the dual match moved to singles competition. Wollner finished first in singles with ease, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. On court four, Freya Rahm amped up her play throughout the match, taking the first set 6-2 and the second 6-0. Clinching the match for Oberlin, Stella Kollmansberger earned a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win.
With victory certain, Allen added to the win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2. On court six, Hannah Soong swept her competition in the first set,6-0, followed by a competitive 6-4 second set to win her contest.
Regaining her footing after a difficult singles match last week, Kingston found her groove at No. 3 and picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory to end the day.
"[It was] a great match to continue the week, our win really shows our hard work [along with battling] through the heat and humidity." Sophomore Wollner added, "we also brought a lot of energy today, which really kept us connected as we all played."
Next up, women's tennis prepares for a morning match on Wednesday, March 25. Moving north to their final destination at Hilton Head, South Carolina, Oberlin takes on Augustana for an early 8:30 a.m. start.
