Crimson and Gold Battle John Carroll

Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting their second North Coast Athletic Conference match of the year, the Oberlin College women's tennis team fell in a tough battle against John Carroll. The Crimson and Gold dropped the match 6-1, shifting to 4-3 (0-2).  

In doubles play, Scarlett Kingston and Eva Lopez paired up on court one, but came up short 6-1 to their opponents. Stella Kollmansberger and Olivia Wollner powered to a 6-3 victory over John Carroll on No. 3, evening the match with one court remaining to determine the doubles point. Hannah Soong and Freya Rahm battled in a close match at court 2, but John Carroll's pair clinched the 7-5 victory to secure the doubles point.
 
In singles action, Kingston concluded her match first on court two, falling 6-0, 6-1. Kollmansberger gained some momentum at No. 1, but ultimately came up on the wrong end of the 6-4, 6-2 scoreline. Lopez wrapped up next on court three, but trailed 6-3, 6-1 to the Blue Streaks. 

With John Carroll clinching the match 4-0, Oberlin turned to their remaining three courts to find a win. Appearing on court four, Rachel Allen dropped the first set 6-0 before battling to a gritty 7-5 victory. In the tiebreaker, Allen started the set down 5-0. Coming within one after two different rallies, the Blue Streaks' Emma Smith clinched the 10-8 tiebreaker. 

Finishing after Allen on court five, Rahm trailed 6-2, 6-0. Olivia Guzman secured the Crimson and Gold's lone victory at No. 6. Down 5-2 in the first set, the rookie tallied five straight points to win the first set. Carrying the momentum into the second set, Guzman blanked JCU 6-0. 

 
Oberlin will return to action when they start their spring break travels at Pfeiffer on Saturday, March 21. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
