Westlake, Ohio – In just his second week as a collegiate athlete, Oberlin College men's tennis rookie
Dash Smith has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.
"Dash played a trio of high-level competitors this week, and this honor is a testament to his resilience and mental toughness." Head Coach Eric Isida noted, "Even as a first-year, he has rises to the challenge, and finds ways to get better as the match progresses."
First-year Smith delivered an impressive week for the Yeomen, going a perfect 3-0 in singles play while competing in the team's top three lineup spots.
Smith opened with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles in a 4-3 neutral-site victory over Rhodes. He followed with a resilient three-set win (4-6, 6-0, 10-5) against Lake Forest. Smith capped the week by clinching Oberlin's 5-2 home victory over Rochester with a gritty 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 2 singles.
His undefeated singles performance solidified his role as the team's top first-year contributor.
Smith looks to continue his undefeated streak when the team heads to Ohio Northern for their next match this Saturday, February 21.
