New Orleans, Louisiana - Exemplifying excellence in the classroom and on the course, the Oberlin College men's and women's cross country teams garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for the fourth consecutive year.

The Yeomen finished with a team GPA of 3.57, while the Yeowomen recorded an impressive 3.65 GPA.

"Our men's and women's cross country teams had outstanding fall semesters," Head Coach Izzy Alexander adds. "I am incredibly impressed by the dedication and seriousness with which the team members approach their school work and how they model every day what it means to be a student-athlete."

Individually, Liam Newman and Cooper Tanski collect USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors for their notable performance in the classroom and during the 2025 season.

Both Newman and Tanski earned All-Conference Third-Team honors during the cross country season after finishing 17th and 18th, respectively, at the NCAC Championship in November. The pair helped lead the men's team to a third-place team finish.

Two weeks later, Newman collected his first All-Region accolade, placing 19th overall at the NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional Championship with a 20-second personal best. Tanski finished as the top rookie from the Oberlin men's team, posting his second-fastest career 8k time.

"I am thrilled for Liam and Cooper for being honored as All-Academic Athletes," Alexander continues. "They both had great cross country seasons, and the award is a well-earned exclamation point for Liam on his cross country career, and for Cooper, it rounds out an excellent first-year season and forecasts a very bright future."

In order to qualify for All-Academic Team distinction, cross country squads must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.

In order to qualify for All-Academic Athlete distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

Newman, Tanski, and the rest of the Crimson and Gold return to action on Friday, February 20, at the Ed Finnegan Greater Cleveland Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve. The meet is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
