Oberlin, Ohio. — Oberlin College Athletics is joining the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge this fall, teaming up with colleges and universities across Ohio to support a statewide program that encourages healthy habits and goal-setting among students in grades 3-8. The Crimson and Gold scholar-athletes will visit area schools to lead activities, cheer students on, and talk about how setting goals and putting in the work has shaped their own athletic journeys.
The challenge is a free program led by Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel. Its third round runs August 31 through December 4, 2026, and is expected to reach nearly 650,000 students at more than 2,100 schools in all 88 Ohio counties. Schools receive grade-specific workbooks and digital resources covering cardio, strength, flexibility, nutrition, sleep, and mental and emotional well-being. Over 30 days, students work toward Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement levels.
College and university partners are new to this round of the challenge. Throughout the fall semester, groups of Oberlin scholar-athletes will head into local classrooms and gyms to connect with students and help them get moving.
"Strong communities begin with people showing up for one another. As coaches and educators, we see how setting goals, building healthy habits, and celebrating all progress help students thrive." said Associate Vice President for Athletics Advancement and Delta Lodge Director of Athletics & Physical Education, Natalie Winkelfoos. "We are proud to partner with the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge to extend that work beyond our Oberlin campus, helping young people build confidence and develop skills that will serve them in the classroom and throughout their lives."
The challenge is designed as a personal growth program rather than a competition between students. It requires no specialized equipment or athletic background, so every student can take part. Learn more at TeamTressel.Ohio.gov.
