Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Oberlin Shows Grit in Close Contest Against Meredith

Springfield, Ohio – Oberlin College field hockey showed its resilience Monday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field, answering a Meredith goal with an equalizer before coming up just short, 2-1.

Oberlin's defense held Meredith scoreless through the first 40'. The Crimson and Gold also had the better of the opening quarter, outshooting Meredith 2-1. Meredith finally broke through in the third quarter, scoring in the 40'.

Oberlin didn't back down. Just 10' later, Clare Kammeier tied the game at 1-1 in the 50', putting away her only shot of the afternoon. Oberlin came alive offensively in the fourth quarter after being held without a shot in the third, and finished with three shots in the final period.

Meredith took the lead for good in the 52'.

Goalkeeper Mia Rubin was a bright spark, playing all 60' and making four saves, including two in the fourth quarter to keep Oberlin within reach. Mary Rodman led the team with two shots, while Kammeier, Samantha Finkelberg, Shelby Roth and Johana Horvath each put a shot on goal. Oberlin also kept its fouls down, committing fewer than Meredith, and limited Meredith to three penalty corners.

The Crimson and Gold are back in action this weekend, traveling to face Allegheny on Saturday, October 24. Game time is set for noon.
