Volleyball Meets Tigers in Road Contest

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College volleyball team traveled to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Tigers in a three-set matchup. The Crimson and Gold came up short, falling 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-17.

Kira Geiger led Oberlin with nine kills, followed by Mara Geiger with seven and Brylie Peters with six. Mimi Spangler paced the offense with 20 assists, while Mary Ellen Lovelace led the defensive effort with 10 digs. K. Geiger also contributed two service aces and a block.

The Crimson and Gold opened the match with a competitive first set, keeping the score close against the Tigers. Oberlin received kills from K. Geiger, Peters, and M. Geiger as the teams traded points throughout the frame. The Obies stayed within reach late in the set, but Wittenberg secured the final points to take the opener, 25-22.

Wittenberg carried its momentum into the second set, building an early advantage. Oberlin continued to find offensive opportunities, with K. Geiger recording a kill off a set from Spangler. Peters and M. Geiger also contributed kills as the Crimson and Gold worked to close the gap. The Tigers maintained their lead, however, taking the second set 25-18.

Oberlin continued to compete in the third set, matching Wittenberg early behind kills from Nickiah Walker, K. Geiger, and M. Geiger. An ace from K. Geiger helped keep the set close, while additional kills from Peters and Makela Reid kept the Obies within reach. Wittenberg gradually pulled ahead late in the frame, closing out the set 25-17 to complete the sweep.

The Crimson and Gold will come home to take on Wooster on Wednesday, October 14th at 7 p.m.
