Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania - The Oberlin College women's soccer team produced a scoreless draw as they faced Geneva College on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Crimson and Gold move to 0-2-2 on the year.
Senior Alison Grant and sophomore Roam Redington split halves in the net, with Grant opening the match for the Crimson and Gold. The Golden Tornadoes only posted two shots on goal during the entire match as Grant and Redington each tallied one save.
Oberlin controlled possession for much of the match, winning all seven corners of the game and outshooting Geneva 9-3. Both teams kept the ball away from the attacking zone until the Golden Tornadoes sent a wide shot 12 minutes into the game. The Crimson and Gold recovered the ball to their offensive end, but were unable to deliver an on-target shot. Geneva struck towards the bottom center at 29:47, but Grant kept the ball out of the goal to register the first save of the match. Neither team saw an opportunity to shoot for the rest of the period, remaining scoreless going into the second half.
The Yeowomen came out aggressive in the second half, notching seven shots during the period. However, the Golden Tornadoes' goalie dished out a strong effort, saving five of Oberlin's attempts. The Crimson and Gold's best scoring opportunity appeared in the last five minutes of the game when, from about 20 yards out, Emilia Rosic sent a shot to the lower left corner of cage. Blocked by the Geneva backline, Rosic regained control and drilled another shot towards the bottom left corner. Making the diving stop, Geneva's Natalie Foster held the rookie from scoring the go-ahead goal.
Oberlin will resume action on Wednesday, September 10, when they host Muskingum for their Leukemia Awareness Game. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
