Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Game Push Falls Short on Saturday Evening

Oberlin, Ohio – Book-ending the match with goals, the Oberlin College men's soccer team was unable to find the equalizer as they fell to Muskingum, 3-2 on Saturday evening.

Walter Gomez-Torres got the match started with a goal in the 15', while Orlando Popkin notched his first-career score in the 75'. Vince Fortuna clocked a complete 90 minutes in cage, amassing nine saves for his second-most in a single game in his career.

Gomez-Torres and Louis Gandelheid got the Yeomen off to a hot start with back-to-back shots in the first minutes of the match. In the far corner of the goal box, Leo Pelizarri-Astle tapped the ball ahead of Gomez-Torres, who sent a low rocket into the back of the net.

Holding the Muskies off the remainder of the half, the visitors ripped off three-straight goals in 13 minutes after returning to the pitch in the second frame. Just seconds after Michael Dolton's shot was saved, Oberlin threw the ball in from the far sideline. Suryansh Yadav collected the pass before it found its way to Christopher Plenca. The rookie connected with classmate Popkin at the top of the box to send the ball into the upper right corner.

Cutting the deficit to one, Oberlin sprinted the ball back to the circle for the kickoff. Jack Kaplan, Gandelheid, and Enrique Porras Jr. all took turns at cage, but none were able to convert. With the final shot coming off the match by Dolton blocked, the Yeomen settled their comeback for a 3-2 loss.

The Crimson and Gold return to the pitch for the final match of their six-game homestand on Wednesday, October 1. Hosting Capital, Oberlin is set to kickoff at 5 p.m.
