Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Oberlin Ties in Season Opener

Wilmington, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's soccer team opened their season on the road, taking on Wilmington under the lights. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after the Crimson and gold scored early, moving Oberlin to 0-0-1 on the season.

Less than two minutes after making her Oberlin debut, first-year Zoey Edmiaston put the Crimson and Gold on the board with an absolute rocket shot. Jemma Freestone threaded the ball to the rookie, who launched it past the Quakers just 1:59 into the match.

Oberlin held off the home team through the rest of the first half, but Wilmington punched back with a goal at the 58:28 mark.

Tied up heading into the final minutes of action, Oberlin's best scoring opportunity came before a shot from Molly Button at 62'. The Quakers' Emma Storck made the stop to keep the game even. In the final five minutes, Roam Redington, who relieved starting keeper Allison Grant at the half, made back-to-back saves to preserve the tie. Unable to convert any shots, the non-conference foes settled for the 1-1 tie to open the season.

"It was a really great team effort to start the season. It's always extra fantastic when a first-year is able to make their mark right away by scoring within the first five minutes. As a team, we competed hard for 90 minutes. We were physical, tough, and resilient. " Head Coach Taylor Houck adds, "This has been a fun group to coach so far, and I can't wait to see what they accomplish this year."

The Crimson and Gold return to the pitch when they open their home schedule on Monday, September 1, at 2 p.m. Oberlin hosts Pittsburgh-Greensburg for the Labor Day affair.
