Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College volleyball team welcomes Paola Maradei Mejia to its coaching staff just ahead of the 2025 season.

"We're very excited to have Paola join our volleyball staff and community here at Oberlin College," Head Coach Jasmine Brown continues, "Paola brings a lot of experience, energy and passion that aligns with the direction that this program is moving in. She's shown her commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court through her philosophy on communication, teaching, and methods on building a strong team culture. We're happy to have Paola on board and are looking forward to the impact she makes on student athletes and the volleyball program."

A former NCAA Division I student-athlete, Maradei Mejia brings both collegiate competition and coaching experience to the Crimson and Gold. At Norfolk State University, the middle blocker from São Paulo, Brazil, ranked eighth and sixth in blocks per set in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in her junior and senior years, respectively. Maradei Mejia was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all four semesters at Norfolk State. Prior to Norfolk, Maradei Mejia spent two successful academic and athletic years at Trinidad State Junior College.

After graduating from Norfolk State in 2022, Maradei Mejia was a graduate assistant coach for West Virginia State University's Division II program while pursuing a Master's of Science in Sport Studies. While Maradei Mejia was on their coaching staff in 2023 and 2024, the Yellow Jackets earned two regular season Mountain East Conference titles and reached the finals of the conference tournament twice. The team fell one step short of a postseason conference title in 2023, but avenged the loss in 2024 to become MEC champions for the first time in program history.

"I'm incredibly grateful to join the Oberlin College community as the new assistant volleyball coach," Maradei Mejia says. "This campus is so inclusive and welcoming. It's easy to feel at home here. I'm excited to work under a great mentor like Jasmine and be part of a volleyball program that values growth, resilience, and creating a meaningful student-athlete experience."

Maradei Mejia and the rest of the Crimson and Gold are set to begin their season at the Great Lakes Crossover in Sandusky, Ohio, against Saint Mary's College (IN) on Friday, August 29, at 3 p.m.

Fans can keep up with their favorite teams on Instagram, Facebook, X, or TikTok, and watch all the home matches live online. The Crimson and Gold's home broadcasts can be accessed on TV through the official Oberlin College Sports Network app on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
