Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Crimson and Gold Suffer NCAC Loss

Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting the DePauw Tigers for a weekend matchup, the Oberlin College men's tennis team dropped the conference match 6-1. The Yeomen move to 5-11 in dual matches, and 1-2 in the NCAC.

In doubles action, the top tandem of Shawn Lisann and Brady Huggett finished first, dropping to the Tigers 6-3. Zain Makada and Enrique Margain wrapped just moments later with a 6-3 loss. After the Tigers clinched the match win, Oliver Knijnenburg and Max Brose took their No. 3 contest to the brink, forcing extra games to decide a winner. The young duo tied the match up at 5-5, but fell short thereafter for a 7-5 final.

Moving into singles play, Makada (6-4, 6-1) finished first before Ben Tichauer (6-0, 6-1) finished his match, both falling to their DePauw counterparts. Down 3-0, Margain battled to keep the match alive, but ultimately dropped the No. 2 match 6-4, 6-2 to Scott Anderson.

Grabbing the first win for the Yeomen, Brose fought nearly two hours to secure a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win. The rookie took down Will Cramer in the No. 3 slot well to set the score at 4-1.

With just two matches left, Huggett and Knijnenburg fought their way through the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Knijnenburg kept it close, but Grayson Zylstra stretched his lead win 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Huggett earned tiebreaker win in the first set 7-6(7), but dropped the last two 2-6, 3-6.

The Yeomen are back in action next Saturday, April 19, when they host the Denison Big Red. Oberlin is set to take on the #3 team in the nation at 11:30 a.m.
