Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team battled through a gauntlet of tight matches before dropping to Wabash, 5-2. The Crimson and Gold move to 5-10 in dual matches on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Oberlin saw a great deal of success in doubles play, beginning with first-years
Max Brose and
Oliver Knijnenburg on the No. 3 court. The rookie duo secured a 6-1 victory before second-year
Zain Makada and first-year
Enrique Margain clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 slot.

At the top of the order, third-year
Shawn Lisann and first-year
Brady Huggett were tied at 6-6, heading into a match tiebreaker. After swapping points, Lisann and Huggett jumped ahead at the right time to take a 6-4 lead. Winning the next point, the Crimson and Gold completed the doubles sweep behind the top tandem's 7-6(4) victory.

Heading into singles play, Brose finished first, falling to Augusto Ghidini 6-2, 7-6(7). The first-year had four set points in the tiebreaker, but impressive shotmaking from Ghidini erased those and earned the Little Giant the win. Tied at 1-1, the Little Giants secured another point after Makada fell in back-to-back tiebreakers on the second court. The second-year saved a match point at 5–6, 40-40 in the second set before earning five set points in the tiebreaker, each of which Rafael Rin erased. Rin converted his second match point for a 7-6(3), 7-6(9) win.

After Margain took the first set 6-3, the No. 3 player fell 6-4 to force a third set. In a tight match, the rookie ultimately conceded a 7-5 defeat.

Down 3-1 to Wabash, Lisann completed the reverse sweep to give Oberlin their first singles point. The junior dropped the first set 7-5 before sprinting out to a 4–0 lead in the second. Wabash's Cole Shifferly completely swung the momentum back in his favor with a four-game streak of his own before Lisann won a crucial deuce point at 4–4. The Yeoman grabbed the next game to complete a 6-4 comeback in the second set. With a new breath of life, Lisann clicked into high gear to earn a 6-3 win and a victory at No. 1 singles.

With two matches remaining, second-year
Ben Tichauer faced an uphill battle against Maksymilian Domanski on the No. 5 court. After dropping the first set 6-4, Tichauer looked to stave off the clinching point in the second set. Spurred by an influx of noise and energy from his teammates, Tichauer jumped out to a 3-1 lead. The second-year couldn't maintain his momentum and saw the match tie up at 4-4 before the Wabash hold. A final break of serve sealed Tichauer's match, 6–4, 6–4.

With victory secured for the Little Giants, Huggett fought on the final court to come away with an extra point. After a 6-3 loss in the first, Huggett and Vittorio Bona traded breaks for the first eight games of the second set before it went to a second set tiebreaker, where Huggett ultimately lost 7-6 (5).

Oberlin makes a quick turnaround for their next match tomorrow, Saturday, April 12, when they host DePauw. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
