Kalamazoo, Michigan – Taking a 7-0 defeat on the road at Kalamazoo, the Oberlin College women's tennis team battled it out Saturday morning.
The top singles team of
Hannah Soong and
Anna Pastore snagged the only win for the Yeowomen, taking out their competition 6-4. In the No. 2 slot,
Rachel Allen and
Freya Rahm fell 6-4 before
Olivia Wollner and
Scarlett Kingston dropped the third doubles match 6-3.
Down 1-0 heading into singles play, Allen conceded first in the No. 2 slot, falling 6-0, 6-1 to Addison Lyons. In the third singles match, Rahm fell 6-0, 6-1 as well. Pastore split her day as she lost to Juliana Pullen 6-3, 6-2 on the No. 1 court. Kingston battled in the first set of her match, falling 7(7)-6(5) in the first set. Exhausted to start the second set, Kingston fell 6-1 as Kalamazoo clinched the match.
Despite solid play on the No. 6 court, Soong dropped her match 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 5 slot, Wollner won the first set tiebreaker 7(7)-6(3), but the Daryn Krause tied the match with a 7(7)-6(5) win in the second. Heading to a match tiebreaker, the first-year went toe-to-toe with the Hornets, but ultimately fell 10-6.
Oberlin takes a short break before returning to the courts on Saturday, March 15 when they host John Carroll for an 11 a.m. start time.
