Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team fell to John Carroll 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Grabbing the lone win in the doubles half,
Eva Lopez and
Scarlett Kingston paired up for victory at No. 3. The duo won the single set match, 6-3.
Anna Pastore and
Hannah Soong paired up for the top slot, but the tandem fell 6-0. In the middle court,
Freya Rahm and
Olivia Wollner battled, to extra sets, but fell 7-5.
Wollner and Soong shined in the match, each earning wins in their singles match. Wollner wen 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot, before Soong won a tiebreaker in the No. 6 slot. Winning the first set 6-4, the rookie lost the second 4-6. Heading to the tiebreaker, Soong came out strong to win 10-7.
It was an intense battle in the other singles matches, most needing tiebreakers to determine the set. At No. 2, Rahm lost 7(7)-6(5), 6-4, just as Kingston wrapped her No. 3 match at 7(8)-6(6), 6-4. On court four, Lopez dropped 6-4, 6-3 to JCU's Emma Smith. Finally, Pastore face an intense opponent in Evelyn Deren. The Blue Streaks came away with the point after a 7(8)-6(6), 7(7)-6(4) win.
The Crimson and Gold have a quick turnaround, coming back to the courts, tomorrow, Sunday, March 16.
