Cardinals Steal Match from Oberlin at Home

Oberlin, Ohio – After concerns over weather, the Oberlin College women's tennis moved their midweek match against Otterbein to the Heisman Fieldhouse. The Wednesday evening match saw the Yeowomen fall 5-2 to the Cardinals.

In the top slot for doubles, Hannah Soong and Rachel Allen struggled to find their footing and face a 6-0 defeat. The Cardinals clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Anna Pastore and Olivia Wollner in the No. 2 spot. Looking for momentum heading into singles play, Scarlett Kingston and Eva Lopez locked down the No. 3 doubles match with a decisive 6-2 victory.

Down 1-0, the Crimson and Gold continued to struggle against the birds, beginning with Pastore in the No. 1 singles match. Losing the first set 6-1, Pastore fell 6-0 in the second set as Otterbein went up 2-0. Freya Rahm also struggled to build momentum against her opponent, conceding the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-1. Allen finished next, losing set one 6-0 before regaining her footing in a tight 6-3 loss.

After winning the doubles match, Kingston continued to roll in singles play. Taking the first set 6-4, the rookie cruised through the second set to a 6-0 victory. With the loss already at hand, Wollner fell 6-1, 5-7, 5-10 in a well-contested tiebreaker.

Looking to close the night on a high note, Lopez gave Oberlin something to carry into their next match with a win in the No. 5 singles court. Going 7-6, 2-6, 1-0, Lopez grabbed Oberlin's second and final point of the night.

The Yeowomen hit the road for their next match, when they travel to Michigan on Saturday, March 8 to face Kalamazoo. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m.
