Lexington, Virginia — The Oberlin College women's tennis team ended their spring break trip with a 2–1 record after a 7–0 loss to the #13 Washington and Lee Generals.
Second-years
Rachel Allen and
Freya Rahm performed the best out of Oberlin's three doubles teams, grabbing two games in a 6–2 loss to Mary Kate Kahl and Allie Murrell in the No. 2 match. Fourth-year
Anna Pastore and first-year
Hannah Soong lost 6–0 to the Generals' No. 1 team, Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz, while first-years
Scarlett Kingston and
Eva Lopez met a similar fate in their No. 3 match, falling 6–0 to Meagan Donovan and Greer Webb.
While facing a top-15 team is never easy, the Yeowomen stayed resilient and battled hard in singles play. Pastore managed to grab three games from Long, an All-American, in a 6–1, 6–2 loss in the No. 1 slot, while Allen could only secure one game in a 6–0, 6–1 loss to the Generals' No. 2 Murrell, who was last year's Player of the Year in South Carolina before coming to Washington and Lee. Rahm and Kingston combined to grab just three games in their No. 3 and No. 4 matches, respectively, with Rahm losing 6–0, 6–2 to Lorenz while Kingston fell 6–1, 6–0 to Sarah Donnelly. First-year
Olivia Wollner lost 6–0, 6–0 to Kahl in the No. 5 match, while the Generals' No. 6 Donovan took down Soong 6–1, 6–0.
After the trip, the Yeowomen improve to 4–6 on the season and will be starting conference play next Saturday when they travel to take on Ohio Wesleyan University.
