Delaware, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's tennis team kicked off North Coast Athletic Conference play with a dominating 7–0 sweep over Ohio Wesleyan University.
The closest match contested today featured fourth-year
Anna Pastore and first-year
Hannah Soong taking on Francesca Nuss and Riley Brokaw. In a back and forth set, the Yeowomen rose their levels when it mattered most for a 7–6 (3) win. The other two doubles matches were much more straightforward for Oberlin, as the #2 and #3 teams lost just two games each. Second-years
Freya Rahm and
Rachel Allen won 6–2 over Lily Hershey and Emma Pzedpelski while first-years
Eva Lopez and
Scarlett Kingston took down Evaleigh Garnett and Maisie Duggar, 6–2.
The Yeowomen eased through singles play, as only one out of twelve sets required a tiebreak.
Pastore and Allen each dropped only three games in their respective matches. Pastore took a few games to find her range in the first set before running away with the #1 singles match, taking down Nuss 6–3, 6–0, for the Yeowoman's seventh singles win of the season. Allen also improved from the first set to the second for a 6–2, 6–1 win over Hershey, Ohio Wesleyan's #2.
Rahm, the reigning NCAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, breezed through the first set of the #3 singles match against Pzedpelski before requiring a tiebreak in the second for a 6–2, 7–6 (2) victory.
Kingston put together the most comprehensive victory of the day with her 6–2, 6–0 win over Brokaw in the #4 match. Lopez, following the trends set by Pastore and Allen, took some time to find her groove against Garnett in the #5 singles match before cruising through the second set for a 6–4, 6–1 win. Oberlin's #6 Soong put a bow on the day with a 6–2, 6–2 win over Duggar.
The Yeowomen are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, April 6, when they host Wittenberg University.
