Oberlin, Ohio – After a fierce battle on the court just the day before, the Oberlin College women's tennis team hosted their second team in as many days on Sunday afternoon. The 6-1 match feel to the way of the NCAA DII Ashland Eagles, moving Oberlin's record to 2-5 in dual matches.
The Eagles made quick work of the Yeowomen in the double half, taking out the No. 1 duo of
Anna Pastore and
Scarlett Kingston, 6-2. On the second court,
Freya Rahm and
Eva Lopez teamed up but fell 6-2 to the No. 2 pairing of Anna Corbel and Evalienna Pryor. After clinching the doubles point, Ashland put away
Hannah Soong and
Olivia Wollner, 6-3.
In the singles competition, Kingston finished on court three first, falling to her Eagle opponent 6-0, 6-1. On the fourth court,
Eva Lopez grabbed the first set 6-4, but her counterpart bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4, 7-5.
Freya Rahm also took a set in the No. 2 match, after losing the first 6-2. With a 6-4 win in the second set, Rahm forced the match into a third set. Battling, but coming up short, Rahm dropped the next one 6-3 to give Ashland the 4-0 match clinch.
After a nearly three-hour battle on the top court, Pastore grabbed the Crimson and Gold's first point of the match against Ana Penteado. Taking set one 6-4, the Eagles bounced back to force a tiebreak for the final set. Pastore took a 3-0 lead in the tiebreak, but Penteado tied it right back up at 3-3. The duo swapped points until Pastore got the mini break with win the match, 8-6.
With the match already to Ashland, the Eagles gabbed a pair of insurance wins from the No. 5 and No. 6 courts.
Olivia Wollner dropped 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, just before Soong 6-1, 6-1 to cap the Sunday matchup.
The Yeowomen take a long break before their next match which is set to be on their Spring Break trip to the east coast. Oberlin opens the week at Goucher on Monday, March 24, at 4 p.m.
