Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Oberlin Rolls Past Westminster

New Wilmington, Pennsylvania – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team cruised past Westminster on Wednesday evening. The 17-8 win maintains a perfect record for the Yeomen at 2-0.

Jacob Starcke charged the attack with five goals and one assist, while Christian Tacogue added another five points. Jack Duffy, Cooper Zancosky, and Nicholas Cuda each added three points in the match.

Evan Sardina was near perfect on the face-off, going 14-15 for nine ground balls. Backing him up, Thinley Edwards also had a standout day with 9-13 wins in the circle.

In cage, Jake Pillsbury guided the defense with 11 saves through 60 minutes. Coling Taylor had a phenomenal night on the backline with six ground balls and six caused turnovers. The sophomore was helped by Cooper Rand and Jonas Taylor-Lillquist who combined for four caused turnovers and six ground balls.

After a very slow start to the game, Zancosky put Oberlin on the board after Taylor-Lillquist caused a turnover in the midfield. Just over a minute later, Joe Chai connected with Tacogue to go up 2-0. Now with a head of steam, Oberlin scored four more goals before Westminster got on the board in the second quarter. The Crimson and Gold scored thrice more to close out the half with a 10-2 lead.

Despite the Titans scoring twice to open the third quarter, the Yeomen responded with two of their own in 29 seconds to reclaim an eight-goal lead. Jumping to a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter, Oberlin continued to pressure the Titans' defense with another three insurance goals to solidify the victory.

The trouncing of the Titans marks the second-straight year the Crimson and Gold have jumped out to a 2-0 record. Up next, the Yeomen continue east where they'll take on Oswego State this Saturday, March 1. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
