Men’s Lacrosse Soars Past Flying Dutch

Ann Arbor, Michigan – Traveling to play a neutral-site game at the University of Michigan Lacrosse Stadium, the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team dominated Hope on Wednesday night. Clobbering the Flying Dutch 20-7, the Yeomen improve to 3-0 on the year.

Scoring five goals each, Christian Tacogue and Jacob Starcke drove the Yeomen attack. Rookie Cooper Zancosky added another hat trick to his resume, while Asher Friedman notched two goals. A pair of Obies finished with multiple assists, led by Nicholas Cuda with three and Solomon Brennan with two.

At the face-off, Evan Sardina went 17-24 for 12 ground balls. The sophomore shared the circle with Thinley Edwards, who finished the day 5-6. Scooping ground balls beyond the face-off, Gavin Girard, Alexander L'Hommedieu, Jake Fields all pulled in three GBs. Chris Totonis caused three turnovers for Hope, while ten other Yeomen added to that team total. Jake Pillsbury led the defense from cage, collecting 11 saves.

The Crimson and Gold wasted no time getting on the board, scoring first off a pass from Brennan to Zancosky. Brennan notched his own score just a minute later before Joe Chai connected with Starcke for the third Oberlin goal. The Yeomen added three more before the quarter ended, to take a 6-3 advantage.

Continuing their momentum into the second period, Jackson Lu scooped a loose ball for the Yeomen, which he passed off to Tacgue for the team's seventh goal. Closing the half with five unanswered goals, the Crimson and gold held a 12-4 lead at the end of the second quarter.

Despite Hope scoring first in the second half, Oberlin rallied for three goals in less than a minute to quell any momentum from the Flying Dutch. With a 12-goal lead, Oberlin continued to mount against Hope, holding them scoreless in the final period of play.

After two weeks on the road, the Yeomen return to a three-game homestand beginning with Elmhurst this Saturday, March 8. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
