Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road

Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team dropped their NCAC match against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The 78-64 final moves the Yeomen to an even 10-10 on the season and 2-9 in conference action.

Zach Smith paced Oberlin's offensive with 18 points, all coming from three-pointers. Milun Micanovic and JJ Gray also finished in double-digits, with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The duo bolstered the Crimson and Gold defense, combining for 16 rebounds in addition to Micanovic's two blocks.
 
With a team-high seven assists, Yuuki Okubo added another three steals and nine points in the loss. Also with nine points, Will Bousquette III brought down six rebounds and a pair of steals before fouling out.
 
Battling neck-and-neck in the first half, Oberlin finished just a hair ahead of OWU. The 26-25 lead was highlighted by Smith's 4-5 shooting from behind the arc. Additionally, Micanovic was responsible for 17 points after dishing out four assists while added seven points of his own. In the first 20 minutes, the Yeomen held NCAC points leader, Henry Hinkle to just two points and 0-7 from behind the arc.
 
As the second half got underway, the game maintained its competitive nature. The Yeomen staying within just a score of the Battling Bishops' lead until Jessee Battle drilled a three-pointer to take the team's largest lead of the day. With momentum on the side of the home team, OWU quickly extended their lead to 67-53, at 6:37. Oberlin's 11 points in the final minutes of the game weren't enough to keep up with OWU, who also tallied 11 points for a 78-64 final.
 
The Yeomen take a week off before returning to action on Saturday, February 8 against DePauw. Hosting the Tigers, tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
