Canton, Ohio – Holding their place at the end of day two, the Oberlin College swim and dive teams finished another strong day at the Malone Invitational on Friday night. The men's team added 436 points for a total of 772 and a hold in second. The women's team added 311 points for a total of 555 and maintenance in fifth overall.
Getting the second day started with the 200-yard medley, the women's team of
Nyrobi Whitfield,
Soomin Yoo,
Kendall McKelvey, and
Ari Marrero clocked in a 1:52.46. The team grabbed sixth overall. On the men's side of the relay
James Moll,
Charles Matia,
Leo Powers, and
Zach Black finished with the fifth-best time in program history, at 1:32.97. The record swim placed the Yeomen in third.
Earning a B-Final,
Gretchen Lotter swam 2:03.00 in the 200-yard free race, while teammate
Cam Maurer (2:03.45) followed close behind in 14th. Nearly breaking his own school record, one he set at the Malone Invitational last season,
Chahine Saïd blazed through the pool in 1:41.45 in the men's 200-yard race. The second-best time in program history, Saïd earned second in the event.
Kye Marrero finished in fifth in the same event, in just 1:45.63, which goes down as the third-best time in Yeomen history.
In the women's 400-yard IM,
Katherine Noller clocked a near-even 5:00.96 to grab sixth.
Miguel Siwady continued his impressive early season with a third-place finish in the men's 400-yard IM, touching the pad at 4:14.10. Powers rattled off another top-three finish for the Crimson and Gold, this time in the 100-yard fly. The senior touched the pads at 50.72, setting a personal-best and clocking in the fourth-best time in Oberlin's history.
Emerson Rutherford-Parish rounded out the top-ten for the Yeomen in the same event, grabbing tenth with a time of 53.38 and a new PR.
The 100-yard breast event saw Yoo notch 1:08.84, to grab sixth in a tightly contested field. Matia also fared well in the race, with a fifth-place finish in the men's event. His time of 57.90 sets a personal-record and moves him up to the fifth-best finish ever for the Yeomen. Just behind him, Black (58.76) and Yuan Want (59.84). The duo both set PRs, while Black's time takes sixth-best in record books. Rounding out the individual competition, Moll grabbed another top-five finish, this time in the men's 100-yard back with a time of 52.27 for fifth.
The women's team ended their night with a seventh-place finish in the 800-yard free relay, clocking in at 8:28.88. Noller, Lotter, McKelvey, and Maurer led the team. The men's team of Saïd, K. Marrero, Powers, and Siwady finished in second-place with a time of 7:07.73.
The Crimson and Gold return to the pool for their final day of competition, tomorrow, Saturday, November 22. Prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m., with finals following later in the afternoon. The Yeomen look to make a final push to overtake DII powerhouse Gannon, while the women's team look to make a leap into the top-three.
