Oberlin, Ohio - Rookie
Charles Gerber scored his first collegiate goal as the Oberlin College men's soccer team hosted No. 17 Denison for their penultimate home match of the season.
Junior
Vince Fortuna and sophomore
Lukas Verling split halves in the cage, with Fortuna leading in the opening half.
The Big Red sent their first on-target shot just over four minutes into the match, leading Fortuna to make the stop. Unable to control the ball, Denison's Justin Crow claimed possession of the rebound, drilling the ball into the cage. The Big Red recorded two more goals within a three-minute span to hold a sizable edge over the Yeomen and kept them from securing an offensive opportunity for the remainder of the half.
Denison notched their fourth goal nearly ten minutes into the second half, controlling much of the time of possession. After battling through the Big Red defense, Oberlin produced their first goal in the 76'. Sending a cross from the edge of the penalty box, senior
Nathan Thompson connected with Gerber to get Oberlin on the board. The Big Red posted two late goals less than a minute apart to clinch the 6-1 victory.
The Crimson and Gold will travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 29, for a midweek matchup. The evening game is scheduled for 7 p.m
