Leung Scores in North Coast Draw Against Ohio Wesleyan

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's soccer team tied Ohio Wesleyan 1-1 in a North Coast road matchup on Wednesday night.

Senior Alison Grant appeared in the cage for all 90 minutes of regulation, registering eight saves. Despite being outshot 23-5, the Oberlin defense remained connected, keeping the rivals out of the net for all but one late goal.

The Battling Bishops controlled offensive action early, delivering a pair of shots in the first two minutes of play as Grant recorded her first save of the match. The Crimson and Gold got their first sight of offensive action after securing a freekick just five yards outside the penalty box. Sophomore Emma Boyles sent the ball right in front of the cage, connecting with senior Skylar Leung, who sent her shot past the Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper at 20:38.

Building off the momentum, first-year Zoey Edmiaston drilled an attempt just over a minute later but was stopped by the Battling Bishops' keeper. Ohio Wesleyan produced four more shots, including one final attempt with 20 seconds remaining in the half, as Grant snatched the ball to keep the opponents out of the net.

After stopping an attempt early in the second half, Oberlin shifted the action to their attacking end, providing an offensive opportunity for first-year Molly Button. Drilling the ball to the bottom right, the Battling Bishops' keeper kept the rookie from converting. The Oberlin defense continued to persevere, holding off the relentless Ohio Wesleyan offense. With just over five minutes remaining in the match, the Battling Bishops slipped a shot past Grant to level the match. The Crimson and Gold were unable to find an opportunity to reclaim the lead, concluding the conference match with a draw.

Oberlin will resume league action on Saturday, October 25, when they travel south to Kenyon. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
