Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College Head Swim & Dive Coach Alex de la Peña has announced the hiring of Hannah Burandt as the Associate Head Coach of the Crimson and Gold.

"We are excited to add Hannah to our staff as our associate head coach! She brings great experience to our program, having been a Division I assistant and head coach as well as her prior experience here at Oberlin as an assistant to start her college coaching career," de la Peña adds. "We look forward to having Hannah help grow and strengthen our program going forward. Her presence on our staff will enhance the experience of our student-athletes on all fronts!"

Burandt returns to Oberlin after bringing over 14 years of coaching experience across Division I and Division III. Most recently, Burandt served as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach at Cleveland State for five years, capping her tenure as the Horizon League Men's Coach of the Year in 2024. During her time with the Vikings, she also coached three Olympic Trial individual qualifiers and a two-time Irish National Champion.

Before Cleveland State, Burandt was the Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Houston for four years, leading the Cougars to three American Athletic Conference titles, back-to-back NCAA qualifiers, and two Olympic Trial individual qualifiers. The Parma native has also coached at Georgetown and the University of Louisville after getting her coaching start at Oberlin from 2011-2013.

Burandt also brings a plethora of experience directing and coaching swim camps. Founding Burandt Aquatics, LLC in 2023, Burandt oversees the operations of camps, clinics, and the creation of a U.S. Masters Swimming team.

"Coming back to Oberlin to work with Alex is like coming home. My collegiate coaching career began here at Oberlin 15 years ago, and I've been all around the country gaining valuable knowledge and experiences since then," Burandt continues. "I'm so happy to be able to work hand in hand with Alex to honor the traditions of this program and elevate our program to new heights. GO YEO!"

A four-time Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion and Mid-Major All-America Honorable Mention, Burandt graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan with her bachelor's degree in secondary math and health education, helping the Eagles to their first two MAC Championship titles in 2006 and 2007. Burandt later earned her master's in sport administration from the University of Louisville in 2018.
