Bejarano Scores in Homecoming Draw Against Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio - Hosting North Coast opponent Wittenberg during Homecoming Weekend, the Oberlin College men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw. With the tie, the Yeomen shift to 4-8-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Lukas Verling appeared in the cage for all 90 minutes of regulation, recording seven saves. The Tigers held a 16-7 advantage in shots as both opponents drew four corners each.

Wittenberg delivered an early offensive pressure, posting a trio of shots within a two-minute span. Verling stopped each attempt to keep the rivals off the board. Hoping to control the ball to their offensive end, the Tigers were able to intercept Oberlin's pass, quickly sending a shot past Verling to score the opening goal at 7:34.

Wittenberg continued to put pressure on the Yeomen defense, producing seven more shots. Junior Michael Dolton posted a pair of shots while first-year Christopher Plenca found an offensive opportunity, but all three attempts were stopped by the Tigers' goalkeeper as Oberlin entered the break down 1-0.

Freshman Alexander Bejarano opened scoring action for the Yeomen in the 72nd minute. Securing a freekick just outside of the penalty box along the endline, sophomore Walter Gomez-Torres sent the perfect pass directly in front of the net. Battling the relentless Tigers' defense, Bejarano controlled the ball, sinking it past Wittenberg's Aidan Rice to score the equalizer for Oberlin.

Carrying the momentum from Bejarano's goal, Gomez-Torres drilled another shot less than a minute later but was stopped by the Tigers' defense. Junior standout Michael Dolton battled past Wittenberg's backline, nailing the ball to the bottom right past Rice to clinch the lead for the Yeomen at 80:33.

With less than four minutes remaining in the match, the Tigers sent a shot past Verling to level the match. Oberlin was unable to find a final opportunity to secure a late goal, concluding the match with a 2-2 draw.

The Yeomen will resume play on Saturday, October 18, when they travel to Wabash. The North Coast matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m.
