Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Battle Against #15 Denison

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team fell to #15 Denison on Wednesday night. Although the Yeomen outscored the nationally-ranked Big Red in the second half, Denison took the 72-59 victory. Oberlin drops to 2-8 in the conference and 10-9 overall.

JJ Gray led Oberlin's scoring for the second-straight game, putting up 16 points on 7-13 shooting. Jackson Reynolds followed with a career-high eight points, while adding a block and a steal to the effort. Reynolds and Gray also guided the three-point shooting with a pair each.

At the forefront of the defense, Asaan Snipes-Rea pulled in a team-high seven rebounds, while Andrew Gannon grabbed six rebounds and two steals.

While maintaining and back-and-forth game, the Yeomen led Denison 17-16 midway through the half. The Big Red responded with a 6-0 to take the lead, before Rob Magner cut the drought with a jumper in the paint. Bringing the Yeomen back within two, Magner and Co. saw Denison jump back out in front 17-3 to end the half.  Oberlin struggled from behind the three-point line in the first half, converting only one shot from Zach Smith at 11:34.

Down 42-25 to start the second half, Oberlin's slow start saw the visitors extend their lead to 21 before Gray put the Crimson and Gold on the board with a three-pointer. Yuuki Okubo hit another triple just before Reynolds went back-to-back to cut into the deficit. A Magner tip-in off a shot from Snipes-Rea put Oberlin within striking distance at 55-52 with eight minutes remaining. The momentum was short-lived, however, as the Big Red regained control of the game for a 72-59 final.

Oberlin will get back in action this Saturday, February 1 when they hit the road to take on Ohio Wesleyan. The Yeomen look to sweep the Battling Bishops after defeating them 71-62 at home in early January. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
