Men’s Basketball Drops Against (RV) Wooster

 Oberlin, Ohio – After a back-and-forth first half, the Oberlin College men's basketball team succumbed to a powerful shooting team in Wooster on Saturday afternoon. Receiving votes in the national polls, Wooster stole an 83-59 win from Oberlin. The Yeomen drop to 10-8 on the season and 2-7 in the NCAC.
 
Oberlin was led by JJ Gray with 27 points and a trio of rebounds. Zach Bronson scored nine points, but led the team in assists with five. Milun Micanovic guided the defense with five rebounds, while Andrew Gannon added another three. With a pair of block, Will Bousquette III got in on the defensive action.
 
Gray put Oberlin on top early, but the Fighting Scots responded with five-straight three-pointer to take a decisive lead. Down by as much as 18, the Crimson and Gold clawed their way back within seven, after a triple hit from Gray. Zach Smith got hot in the next possession with a three of his own to bring the score to 30-24. Wooster ended the half with three free-throws to hold a 33-26 lead.
 
Gray against started the Yeomen's offense with a jumper in the paint, added another one just seconds later. Within five, the Yeomen never got any closer as the nationally recognized Fighting Scots dominated on the perimeter with eight three-pointers. Oberlin had a much better shooting half in the second, going 13-22 from the field. Over the game's 60 minutes, both Oberlin and Wooster scored 24 points in the paint.
 
The Yeomen return to Philips Gymnasium for their next match when they host a lethal Denison team. The Big Red have climbed the polls to 16th and are undefeated in the NCAC.  The conference game is slated for Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m.
